Inheritance Studio was born from an inheritance of art supplies, creative instincts, and the belief that making things matters. After losing her mother, our founder Elinor inherited boxes of fabric, paint, and tools that deserved more than a storage unit. She looked around at estate sales and saw the same thing everywhere: lifetimes of creative accumulation waiting to be passed on. Inheritance Studio exists to give materials a second life and to give our community a place to use them, because making things sustainably with others is more fun.

We are a pay-what-you-can nonprofit makerspace rooted in SW Portland. Our supplies are sourced from estate sales, household donations, and community generosity. Once we have a location, our programming will be open to everyone— drop-in open studio, craft circles, workshops, and skill shares taught by local artists and community members. Whether you’re an experienced maker or someone who wants to try out a new medium, you belong here.
